At Oakwood Academy, our pre-K program is designed to prepare 4-year-old children for kindergarten. We do this through a structured curriculum informed by AISD teacher recommendations. Our learning goals include pattern recognition needed for early reading and writing, as well as early exposure to basic math and science concepts. Early Reading, Writing, and Sight Words
Early literacy instruction helps children build a strong foundation in reading and writing. Students are introduced to letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and handwriting, including writing their names and forming simple words. They also start learning common sight words that are typically short and easy to recognize, such as “the”, “or”, and “I.” Through effective encouragement and repetition, we help your child recognize letters, shapes, colors, numbers, write their name, identify sight words and letter sounds, and read simple sentences. These metrics not only follow AISD recommendations but also teach your child the basic recognition needed for future problem-solving and academic success.
