Specialized Programs Catering to Your Child’s Requirements

Oakwood Academy Child Care offers a structured yet loving environment, focusing on hands-on learning through our “Learn through Play” program. Children follow a daily schedule and are encouraged to choose activities, fostering autonomy and self-control. While teaching essentials like letters, numbers, and basic math, we also emphasize social skills critical for school success. Our preschool programs, developed with input from AISD kindergarten teachers, are highly regarded and prepare children effectively for school.

What We Offer

Infants

For children under 12 months, we adhere to parents' written schedules. Infants engage in various activities designed to support physical mobility, fine motor skills, and cognitive development.

Two’s

This age group focuses on fostering autonomy and encouraging children to do things independently. Building on their toddler skills, they continue learning basic shapes, letters, colors, and numbers while also recognizing their names and developing physical skills like running, hopping, and clapping through music and play.

Fours

Children start preparing for kindergarten at age four with a program based on AISD teachers' recommendations. They learn to sit longer while still engaging in the learn-through-play approach. Objectives include recognizing letters, shapes, colors, and numbers, writing names, starting sight words and letter sounds, and reading simple sentences. Basic math and science concepts are introduced, focusing on enhancing self-esteem and confidence for the transition to kindergarten.

Toddlers

Children aged 12–23 months are introduced to simple sign language to help them communicate needs and emotions before they can verbalize them. They also explore basic shapes, colors, numbers, and social skills through organized play activities.

Threes

Building on the 2-year-old’s program, three-year-olds begin writing and drawing letters, numbers, shapes, and their names. We emphasize listening, following simple instructions, and playing well with others. Sharing is also a key focus. Introductory math, reading, science, art, and social skills are taught through creative play, with minimal use of worksheets and long table sessions.

Summer Programs

We offer in-house and off-campus activities for all ages, featuring a theme-based program with music, art, science, sports, and more. Weekly events encourage exploration and adventure, culminating in a summer celebration with talent shows, carnivals, and field days.

Before & After School Program

We offer before and after school care for children 5-12 years old.  Care includes transportation to and from Pope, Butler, Wimbish, Swift and Duff Elementary Schools.  Breakfast and afternoon snacks are provided.  Children are offered fun activities and guidance in a safe and nurturing environment.  Facilities include two large play areas with dedicated homework space, arts and crafts, arcade games as well as a large outdoor playground.
